Area Code 208 - Idaho

Not only is Idaho the famous home of the potato, it is one of the few remaining states within the United States that has just one area code within state lines. That is the 208 area code. Because this code covers the entire state, there is a huge expanse of land from which any unknown call may come. The population of Idaho is small in comparison to other areas though, so there are not as many numbers to sift through when you want to find out who is calling your landline or mobile phone.

The state of Idaho lies to the east of Washington and Oregon states and west of Montana and Wyoming. The major cities included are Twin Falls, Boise, and Pocatello. Boise is by far the largest city with a large number of prefixes contained within the 208 area code. When you are getting unknown calls from within that code, and you know these are business oriented, you may want to consider they are coming from Boise or one of the other more populated areas.

Low population has kept the area code 208 the only one within the state, but there have been a few times when a new code was under consideration. It was thought that the state would need a new code by the year 2003, but that was not the case, and a new code was not put into use. Again it was thought that numbers would run out by 2010, but number pooling was implemented to stop this from happening. So far, having only one area code works well for the state.

Calls that have unknown origin with the area code 208 are coming from anywhere within the state of Idaho. That means you have a state when you look at the number, but you don't know where in the state that call is coming from. When that happens, you can look up the prefix, which is the three digits after the area code, to get a more specific location to see from where the call originates.

Your unknown number may be landline, and that means you may find out who owns the number with a simple search through a reverse white or yellow page lookup. If the number is from a mobile phone, you are going to have to look elsewhere. You may have to use reverse cell phone lookups within the area code 208 to find out more about the number.
