The Structure of the Paging System

A paging system works on a satellite network. This ensures that even if the terrestrial networks go down, the paging system still functions. As a result, pagers are used widely in the emergency response sectors.

The structure of a paging system is as follows:

User Terminal Equipment: These are the input devices of a pager. An individual uses these devices to input information onto the pager. The equipment could be a telephone handset or a modem-equipped computer with an attached input device. Telephone handset generates numeric messages and the alert tone. These messages are sent via the Public Switch Telephone Network (PSTN). On the other hand, the computer generates alphanumeric messages sent via the Public Switch Digital Network.

Paging Terminal: Next, the messages are sent to the paging terminal connected to the central office of the Public Switch Telephone Network. The messages are sent through a user access interface. The terminal also possesses information such as the pager code and the number on its customer database.

Operation and Maintenance Center: The Operation and Maintenance Center or the OMC is responsible for the administration, maintenance and operation of a paging network. It has access to the customer database at the paging terminal, so that it can create or remove new customer records.

Base Station Controller: The BSC or the Base Station Controller connects the paging terminal and the various base stations. This is done by powering the base stations.

Base Station: The Base Station (BS) broadcasts messages to the pager through radio links. The paging terminal transmits the messages to these base stations using transmission technologies such as satellite-based networks and leased telephone lines.

Thus, messages between the pagers and the input devices flow swiftly because of which the response time in emergencies is significantly less. This structure forms the backbone of one of the most efficient communication devices known as pagers created by Alfred J. Gross.

Area Code 208 - Idaho

Not only is Idaho the famous home of the potato, it is one of the few remaining states within the United States that has just one area code within state lines. That is the 208 area code. Because this code covers the entire state, there is a huge expanse of land from which any unknown call may come. The population of Idaho is small in comparison to other areas though, so there are not as many numbers to sift through when you want to find out who is calling your landline or mobile phone.

The state of Idaho lies to the east of Washington and Oregon states and west of Montana and Wyoming. The major cities included are Twin Falls, Boise, and Pocatello. Boise is by far the largest city with a large number of prefixes contained within the 208 area code. When you are getting unknown calls from within that code, and you know these are business oriented, you may want to consider they are coming from Boise or one of the other more populated areas.

Low population has kept the area code 208 the only one within the state, but there have been a few times when a new code was under consideration. It was thought that the state would need a new code by the year 2003, but that was not the case, and a new code was not put into use. Again it was thought that numbers would run out by 2010, but number pooling was implemented to stop this from happening. So far, having only one area code works well for the state.

Calls that have unknown origin with the area code 208 are coming from anywhere within the state of Idaho. That means you have a state when you look at the number, but you don't know where in the state that call is coming from. When that happens, you can look up the prefix, which is the three digits after the area code, to get a more specific location to see from where the call originates.

Your unknown number may be landline, and that means you may find out who owns the number with a simple search through a reverse white or yellow page lookup. If the number is from a mobile phone, you are going to have to look elsewhere. You may have to use reverse cell phone lookups within the area code 208 to find out more about the number.
